Bianca Pomeranzi
Bianca Pomeranzi has a master degree in history and anthropology and at the present is Senior Gender and Development advisor of the Italian development cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In her professional carrier has served as: delegate of the Italian MoFA for the preparatory process and the 4th UN Conference on the Status on Women in Beijing in 1995; member of the OECD/DAC Bureau of the Working Party on Gender Equality and women’s empowerment (1996-1998) and member of the Italian delegation to the UN Commission on the Status of Women since 1994. She has been consultant on gender and development issues of the first Italian Minister for Equal Opportunities in 1996-1998. In the year 2000 she has been paper editor and speaker at the European Union preparatory conference for the 23rd special session of the UN General Assembly on women 2000 "beijing+5". She has also been appointed as national Counsellor for Equal Opportunities and as Director of the Italian Cooperation office in Dakar for West Africa. During the eighties she worked as transnational feminist and activist for the role of women in development. She was co-founder and member of the board of the Italian Association for Women in Development (AIDOS) participating to the transnational feminist Conferences and Workshops in Latin America, Africa and Asia. She has been university teacher in masters on development cooperation and gender studies and is editor of several essays on gender and development issues and articles on Gender and feminist studies in various Italian newspapers and feminist reviews. Her specific fields of studies are: globalization, women’s empowerment and transnational feminist networks.
